A DIFFERENT KIND OF TWIN
Amy Elizabeth Clear: Our heroine. Age eleven when we meet her in A Different Kind of Twin. Smart, brave, and sure that Paul will be nice to her as soon as he is happy. She is an adult in the following books. As time passes we see her as a college junior, consultant to the New Orleans Police Department, plainclothes detective with NOPD, and private investigator. Trying to make a living.
Paul Dominick Owens: Our hero. Age fifty-eight when he wakes up in Amy’s body, wondering what on earth happened. With Amy’s help he comes to grips with the loss of his body, news of his wife having him declared legally dead, and a confrontation with one of the street thugs who ultimately was responsible for his body’s death.
Doctor James Clear: Amy’s father, an emergency room surgeon at the Jefferson Parish Medical Center. “Jimmy” to his family and long-time friends. He is the first to conclude that Paul is real. With the help of ‘the Scooby Docs’ he pursues the man who kicked Paul into a coma three years earlier, leaving him in a comatose puddle.
Tracey Clear: Amy’s mother. The last to concede that Paul is real, after putting up a fight that left her husband sleeping on the sofa many a night.
Kaylee Clear: Amy’s kid sister, age eight in A Different Kind of Twin. She worships Amy, and accepts Paul even before Amy does. In later books she marries a welder named Eddie and has three children: Little Paul, Little Charlie, and middle child Mary, who looks exactly like Kaylee did at that age. Awww.
Doctor Charlie Eberhardt: Uncle Charlie. James’ best bud from their days at Vanderbilt Medical School. The family pediatrician. He is one of the Scooby Docs who helps Paul find closure. Later he joins James in a private medical practice.
Margaret Eberhardt: Aunt Margie, Tracey’s best friend from college at Vanderbilt, wife of Doctor Charlie Eberhardt. An overly cautious mother.
Lizard Breath: The Eberhardt’s younger son, age twelve in A Different Kind of Twin. Amy has a crush on him and acts on it. The boy never knew what hit him.
Doctor Lazlo Gortner: Staff psychiatrist mit der fake German accent. Eccentric (ya think?), brilliant diagnostician, incompetent blackmailer of unreliable loyalty. One of the Scooby Docs.
Sergeant Johnny Ramirez: NOPD officer who helps James and Amy (and Paul) with a voyage through the mug shot files. Amy remembers him forever because he gives her a ‘Junior Commander’ sticker when they visit the Rampart Street stationhouse. He rises to Captain by the time of The Beaded Necklace, and is a Commander by The Wedding Fatality.

THE BEADED NECKLACE
Detective Steven Riordan: NOPD detective handling the serial murders at Amy’s college in The Beaded Necklace. She falls for him, and cons the man into teaching her forensics and police procedure. A tough instructor, he appreciates Amy’s intelligence and work ethic. Alas, as Amy learns in the last chapter, he is married.
Dr. Jermaine Tallant: NOPD Medical Examiner. Courtly, getting close to retirement. He has a flair for dramatic explanations of evidence and procedure. Very fond of Amy, whom he insists on calling ‘Miss.’ While everyone on the force refers to him as ‘Jermaine,’ he is secretly pleased that Amy alone calls him Doctor Tallant.
Florence Draper: Amy’s college best buddy. She is majoring in design and boys, with a minor in sarcasm.
Reggie Young, Alex Scruggs: Prime suspects.
Christine Hodges: Under-medicated schizophrenic who falls for Paul (uh, Paulette -- you’ll have to read the book). Because she hears her own voices, she is unfazed by Amy and Paul’s dyadic existence. She becomes Paul’s girlfriend, and helps nail the killer in The Beaded Necklace.
Lieutenant Patrick Kowalski: Mentioned in The Beaded Necklace, he becomes Amy’s professional partner in The Rothschild Jewels. The object of Amy’s affection until his estranged wife finds them together. Still, they manage to save one another’s lives.
